Session 3: Essential Knowledge for Completing the Child Outcomes Summary (COS) Process
The Child Outcomes Summary (COS) process requires input from a team of individuals who are familiar with a child's functioning across settings and situations, including families. In this session, you will learn about the knowledge and skills members of the team must have to carry out a quality COS process.
Learning Outcome
After completing this session, you will be able to identify the five kinds of essential knowledge that teams need to have for completing the COS process. They are:
- Understand the content of the three child outcomes;
- Know about the child’s functioning across settings and situations;
- Understand age-expected child development;
- Understand age expectations for child functioning within the family’s culture; and
- Understand how to use the 7-point rating scale.
Reminder about the Cycle of Learning
Remember, it is recommended that you work through all sections of the cycle of learning to maximize your understanding of the content: Set-Up, Presentation, Just for Me, Assessment, and Wrap-Up. If you have forgotten the purpose of any of these sections, feel free to revisit What to Expect.
