DaSy: Child Outcomes Summary (COS) Process Online Module

Just for Me

Just for Me provides an opportunity for you to take a step back from the content and apply it to your own professional practice. The activity below is presented in three parts:

  • Part 1: You will learn about a specific child and be asked to take notes about her skills/behaviors.
  • Part 2: You will use that information to classify her skills/behaviors as age-expected (AE), immediate foundational (IF), and foundational (F).
  • Part 3: You will use the decision tree to determine an outcome rating for the child.

REMINDER FROM SESSION 3

  • Age-Expected (AE) Skills: Skills and behaviors that are typical for children of a particular chronological age.
  • Immediate Foundational (IF) Skills: Skills and behaviors that occur developmentally just prior to age-expected ones.
  • Foundational (F) Skills: Skills and behaviors occurring early in development that are conceptually mapped to later skills and behaviors. These skills serve as the foundation for later development.

Part 3: Practice with the Decision Tree

For the final part of this activity, you will take what you have learned about Kim and apply it to using the decision tree. It is strongly recommended that you print the Decision Tree for Summary Rating Discussions resource and have it available while completing this part of the activity.

Answer the series of questions presented below to work your way through the decision tree and arrive at an outcomes rating for Kim in the area of Positive Social Relationships (Outcome 1).

(Question 1 of 4) What is the answer to the FIRST question on the decision tree: Does the child ever function in ways that would be considered age-expected with regard to this outcome (Outcome 1-Positive Social Relationships)?
